What is WhereWolf?
WhereWolf is a GIS data discovery platform that helps you find, verify, and access public GIS datasets across Florida counties. We aggregate data from county GIS servers, ArcGIS Online portals, and other public sources into one searchable interface.
What types of GIS data can I find?
We index parcels, zoning maps, right-of-way boundaries, utilities, building footprints, infrastructure, environmental data, and more. If a county publishes it via an ArcGIS Server, GeoServer, or WMS/WFS service, we can help you find it.
Is WhereWolf free to use?
Yes! You can browse all counties, view data sources, and use the interactive map for free. Pro features like downloads require a paid subscription.
Data & Sources
How do you verify data sources?
Our automated crawlers check each GIS server daily to ensure it's online and responding correctly. Verified layers have passed health checks and return valid GeoJSON or other standard formats.
How often is data updated?
We re-crawl all sources daily. When new layers are discovered or existing layers go offline, you'll see those changes reflected within 24 hours.
What if my county isn't listed?
We're currently focused on Florida but plan to expand to other states. If you need a specific county, contact us and we'll prioritize it.
Can I suggest a new data source?
Absolutely! Use the contact form or email us with the server URL and we'll add it to our crawler queue.
Downloads & Access
What formats can I download?
Pro users can download cached layers as GeoJSON or Shapefile. We're working on adding additional formats like KML and CSV.
Can I use WhereWolf data in my projects?
Yes! All data on WhereWolf comes from public sources. Always verify the data's license and usage terms from the original county source.
Pro Subscription
What's included in Pro?
Pro includes unlimited downloads, ad-free browsing, cached datasets for instant access, unlimited layer toggles, and priority support.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, you can cancel your Pro subscription at any time. You'll retain access until the end of your billing period.
Do you offer team or enterprise plans?
Team features are coming soon! Contact us if you need multi-user access or custom features for your organization.
Is there a discount for students or nonprofits?
Yes! Contact us with proof of student or nonprofit status for a 50% discount on Pro.
Technical
What GIS platforms do you support?
Currently we support ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, and are adding GeoServer, WMS, and WFS support soon.
Can I use WhereWolf on mobile?
Yes! WhereWolf is fully responsive and works on mobile devices, though the map experience is optimized for desktop.
Do you store or cache actual GIS data?
For Pro users, we cache commonly accessed layers to provide instant downloads. Free users access data directly from the source server.
